Additional Package Details
Starter
With the Starter package, you get all the basics! If you haven’t already registered with the CRA for a business number with a payroll account, we will do this for you. Also, if you would like/need to be registered with your provincial Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB), we will take care of this application as well! We do not charge extra fees for registration services.
When payroll begins, the process is simple. We will provide you with pay stubs each pay period so you know how much to provide your employee on their payday. Your employee can also have online access to their pay statements. The pay statements are easy to read and track both the current period and year to date earnings and source deductions, as well as any taxable benefits. They also show how much vacation the employee has earned in the current period, as well as how much vacation they have accrued to date, if applicable. Or, if you and your domestic employee want to have vacation paid out each period, you will see this listed clearly on the pay stub.
If your nanny or caregiver hours fluctuate each period - no problem! We will process the number of hours worked and will include statutory holiday pay, if needed. Overtime? No problem. This will be listed clearly on the pay statement as well.
With the Starter package, each month we will give you the details you need in order to make the tax remittance to the CRA. These remittances will include the federal and provincial taxes, the employer and employee portions of CPP and EI, and the gross payroll that you need to report as part of the remittance process.
When it is T4 time, we will file the paperwork required with the CRA, and provide you with the copies that your employee will need, and that you can use on your own personal tax return for the child care expense claim (or medical/other claim for other types of caregiving). Your employee(s) will also be able to access their T4(s) online. Is the cost of my nanny/caregiver tax deductible?
Eventually, the employment relationship you have with your household employee will end, or there could be an interruption in earnings. When that time comes, we will issue the Record of Employment (ROE) with Service Canada for you so that if your employee needs to apply for Employment Insurance (EI) benefits, they can. If your employee ends mid-year, there is one last T4 to issue and we will do this for you as well at no extra cost! Then, the accounts with the CRA and WCB can be closed as your time as an employer has ended!
In summary, the Starter package includes all the basics. And if you find you need a bit of extra support by having us take care of the CRA and/or WCB payments and reporting, then you can always upgrade to the Smarter package!
Smarter
All the services from “Starter” + remitting to the CRA and WCB.
With the Smarter package, you get all the basics plus more! If you haven’t already registered with the CRA for a business number with a payroll account, we will do this for you. Also, if you would like/need to be registered with your provincial Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB), we will take care of this application as well! With the Smarter package, when we process your payroll, you will receive both a copy of the paystub, as well as a statement that provides the amount we will be remitting for you to the CRA. This remittance amount, which includes the federal and provincial taxes, and the employer and employee portions of CPP and EI, will be directly debited from your bank account. Since we are making payments to the CRA for you, you will avoid the headache of figuring out how to make payroll deduction remittances! You will also avoid any penalties and interest associated with late payments..
With the Smarter package, if you have WCB coverage, this amount will also be listed as part of the amount to be debited. Not only do we make the payments to the WCB for you, we will also report earnings as this is a required part of the WCB administration. If we are not completing the WCB payments for you, the cost of the Smarter package is $10/month less. The only thing you will have left to do is pay your household employee on their pay day and we make that easy for you as well - it will be on the paystub!
